The Best Time Of The Day To Post To Your Blog.

Submitted by Hamdani Amin on Saturday, 13 September 2008No Comment

I have been keeping score on my traffic since I actively involved in blog. I have been reading a lot about how to create a post that is compelling and interesting. I have also started a post series on marketing your blog.

Now I have started to ask do I really need to post daily to get notice? I think I have been presenting a good post but why no comment or pingback and trackback.  Those a the kind of question I get from my community at Mybloglog.

I ask my self a question, what is the best time to publish a post?  Timing is very important or else the post publish ended into the blogging landfill. Lorelle had previously touched on this topic, but she concluded that there can be no definitive answer.  It really comes down to a bit of research and experimentation to work out when the best time to post.

I can induce a few possible considerations when to publish your next post.

  1. Who is your major audience and where are they situated?
  2. What time of the day does your audience possibly read your post?  This had to be the hour where you see your traffic was the highest.
  3. What day of the week you audience possibly read your post? This will be the day where your traffic was the highest.
  4. How big or significant the impact of social media promotion, like digg, and other on your traffic?

Awstat couple with Google Analytic and StatCounter provide a very good indicator for me to determine the above consideration.  From all three tools, it has indicate to me answer to all of the above.

  1. My major audience is from Malaysia, United States, Singapore and United Kingdom. They situated largely in Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, California, Colorado,  Singapore and London.
  2. Time of the day they read my post will be at 7.00 am, between 10 am - 3 pm, the highest at 4.00 pm and lastly at 10 pm.
  3. My best day of the week that my audience mostly read my post will be on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.  Sunday always not a good day to publish any post to me.  The readership tend to be very low.
  4. Based on last month traffic, social media tactic only work on weekday not on weekend.  If I post or stumble one of my post to social media sites, which in this case either on Tuesday or Thursday, the amount of traffic will be almost similar to my best day of the week.

This seem to be the tactic that work for Streamxy but it wouldn’t not work for every one - what’s yours? Do you find that the time you post impacts traffic and comment levels?
