Shall we consider putting tipping jar at our blog? People had been known to be more relax in departing with a small change or a small amount of money. Everybody willing to pay for something good for a small amount of money or almost free.

If you’re considering a small change for your website, I had identified at least three way to do this. Let look what option we have.

1. Buy me a bear or a coffee - A WordPress Plugins.

Ankesh had introduced Wordpress Plugins that allows your readers to donate money to you via PayPal. The plugin is widget enabled. The plugin will adds a “Buy Me a Beer” or “Buy Me a coffee” button to

2. At the bottom of all posts

When your readers click on that button, they are taken to the secure PayPal page from where they can donate money to you. Ankesh had used the plugin at his blogs’ and at this blog. A detail instruction on how to install can be read at Ankesh blog. You collect all the tips for yourself via paypal and in return be generous to tip the developer.

2. ChipIn - A blog donation tool
ChipIn has some really nifty features beside free to use and works across all blogging platforms it has cool visual interface. It is also can be used as a widget for WordPress.

One more noticeable features of ChipIn is the use of specific power phrasing. They ask you why you are collecting the donation. They also ask you how much you need it and when you need it. You don’t need to specify the later information, but ChipIn found that more specific goal often result more successfull.

ChipIn does not charge any fees to organizers and contributors of events that send payments directly to the Organizer’s PayPal account. However, PayPal Premier or Business accounts may be subject to fees from PayPal.

3. TipJar - Only for TypePad.

TypePad have their own tip jar called TipJar (yes, so obvious). Almost similar to ChipIn, TipJar allow you to earn tips or donations for special purpose course. You could find the installation tips here. There is no clear indication whether TipJar receive any commision on using their software.

4. ScratchBack - A link exchange tipping system.
ScratchBack is an online “tipping” system. It allows you to accept tips and “give back” links or images in return (all links are nofollow to avoid Google policies of Selling Page Rank). You set your own price on your tips, and you earn money from every interaction through their easy-to-use automated system.

Publisher had made creative use of ScratchBack to promote their blogs link although the purpose of the program is “not really “selling” ads” because “you’re accepting tips” since the reader of your blogs “appreciate good information”. 10% of all collection will be given to ScratchBack.

5. TipJoy

Tipjoy is designed to make it easy for people to leave you tips. You need to have an account to collect your tips but anybody could leave your a tips even if you don’t have a user account. The script will create a submit a tip button at your websites, your reader only need to leave their email to tips you. TipJoy charge 3% to 7% as a transaction fees per transaction.

6. Tip My Blog.
Tip My Blog is a server-side widget code that will allow you to earn tips from your blogs. In return for giving tips, your readers could put a link to their website. More or less similar to ScratchBack program but this one will take 30% from each tips your receive .

Which One To Choose?

I think ChipIn is the best choice if you want to implement an online tip jar at your blog, but if you want to give the opportunity to other to promote their link, ScratchBack is the best choice. What’s your choice?
